The prophet being touched, as a recompense, placed his own mantle over the shoulders of the poet. At that period, in order to obtain this sacred cloak called “Burda”, Muawiya had sent the poet 10,000 gold coins as a bribe but Kaab had refused by saying “I shall not consent”. After the poet’s death, however, the cloak was taken from his heirs against 20,000 gold coins.
Return with Holy Relics
After conquering the whole of Arabia, Yavuz Sultan Selim, upon his return to Istanbul had brought along the Mantle of the Prophet and other Holy Relics with him. This is how they have been depicted in sources: “Apart from these magnificent sacred relics, the last Prophet’s (Who gathered the Quran) son-in-law Osman zi el Nureyn ibn Afan’s and the lion of God, Ali ibni Ebutalip’s (son of his excellencey Ebutalip) Qurans in their own hand-writing and the Prophet Mohammed’s beautiful verses of the Quran and his Excellencies’ Ebubekir el Sadik and Omer el Faruk’s sacred flags; three sacred swords belonging to the Prophet Muhammed and 23 swords belonging to the Prophet’s relations Sultan Yavuz Selim’s Reign; His Excellency the Greatest Imam’s (Imam-i Azam) holy blanket together with the skull and bones belonging to his Excellency Zekeriya in an adorned coffer; His Excellency Ibrahim’s saucepan and Imam Ebu Yusuf’s prayer beads and the like were to be placed in the “Department of Happiness” founded by Sultan Yavuz and the Holy writings etc. were to be kept at the Imperial Treasury as the Sultan decreed. He had also decreed that, in order to serve the purpose of occasional visits to these beautiful sacred relics, they be checked upon by Sultans on the fifteenth day of their accession to the throne.
Continuation of Tradition
This tradition was continued by all Ottoman sovereigns after Sultan Selim. In Ramadan and religious festivities these holy relics were being visited by all sovereigns Turkey Customized Sightseeing.
Preparation for War
Yavuz Sultan Selim, upon his return with these priceless sacred possessions, started to prepare to go to war with Iran.
